ABOUT US


Founded in 1973 as a full subsidiary of the VDEh Institute for Applied Research (VDEh-Betriebsforschungsinstitut (BFI)), BFI Betriebstechnik GmbH has since earned an outstanding reputation in the metalworking industry. Based on fundamental BFI research, we develop, conceptualise and produce practical and metrological solutions for the steel, iron, and aluminium industry.

Our team, consisting of highly skilled engineers and highly trained specialists, is thereby able to rely on the know-how and competency of more than 40 years’ experience in measurement technology – from the implementation of operational measurements and scientific support of research projects to the development of electronic measuring systems and their manufacture and launch. We focus on flatness measurement and control. One of our milestones was and still is the development, production and launch of the world’s first fully electronic bi-directional rotary transmission system for the transmission of measurements and control signals (data and energy) in the operation of shapemeter rolls. Of these rotary transmitters, nearly 2000 systems are already in use in many countries across the world.

BFI Betriebstechnik GmbH has also driven the conceptualisation and development of systems for the online / inline measurement of physical variables. Successfully launched products include DynTemp for measuring the temperature of molten metals, DynAcid for measuring mordant concentrations, and DynGas to determine the combustion quality of process gas. BFI Betriebstechnik GmbH’s latest development is a new, innovative testing system called FIDUS (Fault Identification on Rods and Wires via Ultrasound). The only system of its kind worldwide, it detects inner and outer defects simultaneously using a single test head
